According to reports former National Football League MVP Cam Newton has reached an agreement with the New England Patriots.
The 31-year-old who previously played as quarterback for the Caroline Panthers will now step in to compete for an opportunity to replace former quarterback Tom Brady of the Patriots.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Newton will be signing a one year deal with New England. He further added that that the deal has been in the works for a while and is a bare minimum deal. The deal is worth up to 7.5 million, says the source. After the deal, the Patriots have three quarterbacks in training including Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer.
Devin and Jason McCourty showed much excitement about the deal and added that Newton will make their quarterback line up even better.
Jason said, “ I’m excited. Bill [Belichick] always says that the goal to be a good team…is to have as many good players as possible.” Devin added that, “When you add a guy like Cam Newton it makes our QB room even better.”
