Human remains were found in an area near Leon River where a search was conducted for Vanessa Guillen on June 22 by the Army Criminal Investigation Division.
The Army Criminal investigation Division issued the following statement:
“Due to extensive investigative work conducted by Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, agents have returned to an area of interest close to the Leon River, Bell County, Texas for more investigative work in the search for PFC Vanessa Guillen. After receiving additional information, agents have discovered what has been described as partial human remains after analysis from a forensic anthropologist”. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
The remains were found inside a tree line close to the street near Little River Academy at 436 Leon River Bridge. A civilian called the authorities after he smelled something awful.
Tim Miller from Texas Equusearch said the remains were found inside a shallow grave but were concealed well enough that search dogs did not find them.
Miller said Guillen’s family has been informed of the remains.
Guillen was last seen at 11 am on April 22nd in the parking lot of her regimental engineer squadron headquarters.
