The floods caused damage to cars, farm vehicles, and farmlands across Kestel.

Flash floods in the northwest region of Turkey caused by torrential rains have left 5 people dead, according to officials on Monday.

The floods mainly hit the town of Kestel, in Bursa province, late Sunday, killing 5 members of a family and trapping a disabled woman in her home. 

According to the local governor’s office, rescue workers found the bodies of 4 members from the family and the disabled woman on Monday morning. One person remains missing however, searches are still ongoing.

The floods caused damage to cars, farm vehicles, and farmlands across Kestel.

After traveling to the area, the Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said the torrential downpour was more than expected for the season. He said, “the downpour in the region was well above seasonal norms.”
