On Sunday, Barcelona revealed their brilliant new formation since La Liga began last month, as they won 4-1 at Villarreal. The team remains 4 points behind league leaders Real Madrid. Goals from Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann put Barcelona into a two-goal lead before the break. Next, Lionel Messi had a goal dismissed by VAR for offside before Ansu Fati, a substitute, made the winning goal.
Before football was halted in March, Lionel Messi said his team would not win the Champions League with the old formation. The new formation which helped them beat Villarreal, suggest a switch up for the team. It would be risky to get carried away with this idea however, there are more positives than negatives.
Some highlights from the game include the France international, Griezmann. He has been in the spotlight this week after starting on the bench for three of the last four games. In Sunday’s game, Griezmann worked hard and impressed his team alongside Suarez. Also Read– NFL to play Black anthem before each game
Messi had no goals in the game but had two more assists to make a total of 19 this season.
Negatives of new formation
The new arrangement seems to be too late as far as La Liga is concerned. Barcelona remains behind Madrid by four points with only four games left to play. The new formation had big gaps in defense early in the game however, this is the ideal formation to get the most out of the team’s attackers.
